In Short
Influenced by an eclectic mix of music from around the world, Jordan has developed a unique voice that sounds as at home in avant-garde contemporary music as it does in the deeply rooted traditional. He believes music has the power to bring people together regardless of background and believes he will always be a student as much as he is a teacher.
Jordan has performed music across the United States with a number of outstanding ensembles including the Neophonic Jazz Orchestra of Madison and the Frost Latin Jazz orchestra. In 2020 Jordan’s band Two Jackets received a DIG Jazz series recognition from the Greater Madison Jazz Consortium. As an educator, Jordan has taught extensively in classroom and studio settings. He has held teaching positions at the University of Miami's "MusicReach" program and Guitars Over Guns Nonprofit, in addition to public K-12 and private studio teaching. Jordan's compositions have been featured by the Frost Repertoire Jazz Band, and in the summer of 2023 the Mosinee Community Symphonic Band will premier a commissioned suite in memory of his father, John Kowalski.
Jordan holds a Master's degree in Jazz Pedagogy from the Frost school of music at the University of Miami, and a Bachelor's degree in Jazz studies from the University of Wisconsin. He has also studied Cuban music in Camaguey, Cuba, and Brazillian music at the California Brazil Camp in Cazadero, CA.
